As part of Concordia President’s Speaker Series on Digital Futures, in 2018, the university is hosting a diverse group of thought leaders. This sharing of knowledge inspires members of the Concordia community to reflect on how digital is shaping our present and our future. This is just one of the transformational projects being under undertaken in 2017-18 as part of the Strategic Directions initiative to position Concordia as a next-generation university.

Digital Futures – Yoshua Bengio
Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Operations Research at the University of Montreal, Yoshua Bengio is the world-leading expert in deep learning and the author of the best-selling book on the subject.

Head of the Montreal Institute for Learning Algorithms (MILA), Mr. Bengio is also Co-Director of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research program on Learning in Machines and Brains, Research Chair in Statistical Learning Algorithms of Canada and an Officer of the Order of Canada.
Dr. Bengio tries to understand the mathematical and computational principles that underlie intelligence in learning. It contributes to a broad spectrum of research in “machine learning” and is also well known for its theoretical results including artificial neural networks, core machines and the optimization of deep learning.
Author of three books and more than 300 publications, he is one of the most cited Canadian computer experts. He also serves as associate editor for leading scientific journals on machine learning and artificial neural networks.
