Digital Futures – Safiya Umoja Noble
Safiya Umoja Noble, Assistant Professor, Annenberg School of Communication, University of Southern California. Her research focuses on digital platforms and their impact on society.
As the information landscape evolves rapidly, new investments in digital technology are needed. Research continues to demonstrate how digital technology is shaped by values that are not impartial and disembodied.
Ms. Noble will address in this conference the importance of putting in place models of intervention and resistance through research, practice and teaching.
As part of her research work, she examines the power struggles over representation on the web and in the digital library. She is also interested in the consequences of marginalization and misrepresentation in commercial information platforms such as Google search.
